Apple plans to follow the new EU rules, but with a clever trick. The company wants to continue to benefit from the apps even if they are downloaded outside of its own app store.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is working on a way to receive commissions in this case too. However, it remains to be seen how the EU will respond to Apple’s attempt to interpret the rules in a way that continues to benefit the company. After all, the Digital Markets Act was designed to break up monopolies like Apple’s App Store.
