“Sierra Leone reaffirms support for Moroccan autonomy over Sahara”

Sierra Leone reaffirmed this Friday its firm and constant support for the territorial integrity of Morocco and the Moroccanness of its Sahara, hailing the credibility and preeminence of the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the sole basis for the settlement of this file.

This position was reiterated in the joint press release published at the end of the 3rd session of the joint cooperation commission between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Sierra Leone, held in Dakhla under the chairmanship of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita and Sierra Leonean Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, David J. Francis.

According to the statement, Sierra Leone also reiterates its full support for the role played by the United Nations as the exclusive and consensual framework for reaching a definitive solution to this regional conflict, as well as for the decision 693 of the African Union, adopted during of the 31st summit held in July 2018, which officially supports the UN process on this subject.

Sierra Leone also welcomes the dynamics of international recognition of the unity and territorial integrity of Morocco, to which it voluntarily adhered through the opening of a consulate general in Dakhla in August 2021.
