Signing of Memorandum to Implement Light Electric Train Project from Al-Rehab to New Administrative Capital: Minister of Transport and Chinese AFIC Company Partnership

The Minister of Transport confirmed that the implementation of this project is being studied in accordance with the directives of the political leadership to provide a network of green, environmentally friendly transportation that serves the urban expansions of the state and the residential bloc in Al-Rehab, Dar Misr Al-Qanfl, Madinaty, Al-Shorouk, Badr, and New Heliopolis.

The Minister explained that the Chinese company will submit a technical and financial offer within 12 months to implement engineering works, railway works, civil works for the stations, a main feeding station, a number of sub-feeding stations, and electromechanical works for all components of the project, in addition to the workshop and supply of trains with the same specifications and prices as the EPC contract (design – supply – Construction of the third phase of the light electric train project (Adly Mansour / Badr / 10th of Ramadan / Administrative Capital), which is currently being implemented. The civil works for the track will be carried out by local contractors who will be contracted under separate contracts with the knowledge of the National Tunnels Authority. The company will also support the authority in Obtaining the necessary financing under the same conditions as financing the contract for the implementation of the third phase of the light electric train (Adly Mansour / Badr / 10th of Ramadan / Administrative Capital) from Chinese financial institutions.

The team was also witnessed by Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, and Dr. Roland Busch, CEO of Siemens International, announced the start of implementation of work on the electromechanical systems for the second and third lines of the high-speed electric train network between the National Tunnels Authority and the alliance of Siemens International companies, Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors for the (6th of October / Aswan) and (Hurghada / Safaga) railway lines contract. The Minister of Transport confirmed that this signing comes within the framework of the political leadership’s directives to expand the establishment of a clean, environmentally friendly, green transport network and the establishment of a network of high-speed trains consisting of 3 main lines with a total length of about 2000 km, which will represent a huge qualitative leap in means of transportation in Egypt and will cover all parts of the republic as well. In addition to being development arteries serving new and existing urban and industrial areas, they will contribute to reducing and shortening the travel time between governorates to more than half the time that the citizen currently takes, whether through the existing train network or through the current roads linking the governorates.
