Balls fly up where the Christmas tree should actually be. Suddenly it seems huge, the forecourt of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, where tourists crowd in other years. No nativity scene, no crowds of tourists, no cotton candy sellers and no pilgrims – just emptiness. The children of Bethlehem are the only ones who know how to use this emptiness: to play football. Finally there is a lot of space for it.
