The Tanzanians of Simba SC and the Egyptians of Al Masry will approach their quarter-final return with a goal in advance. For its part, Tout Puissant Mazembe drew at Pyramids FC on Sunday 17 April.

Everything will be decided in Lubumbashi for Tout Puissant Mazembe. This Sunday, April 17, the Ravens held in check, in Egypt, the Pyramids FC, semi-finalists of the previous edition (0-0). Dominated and dispossessed of the ball up to 71%, the Congolese managed to round their backs and took advantage of Egyptian clumsiness (21 shots attempted).

In front of their audience in a week, Franck Dumas’ men will have to be more enterprising if they want to reach the last four.

Everything will remain to be done also in the quarter-final return between the two Libyan clubs of Al Ittihadd and Al Ahli Tripoli after the draw this Sunday (0-0).

Favorable ballot for Simba and Al Masry

To see goals, it was rather necessary to follow the confrontation between Al Masry and RS Berkane, revenge for their face-to-face at the same stage of the competition in 2020, the year of the coronation of the Moroccan club.

Unlike two years ago, the Egyptians won the first leg 2-1 despite Moussa and Jelassi being sent off early in the second half at 1-1. It was Haythem Ayouni who scored the winning goal late in the game as his team played with nine.

Earlier, Simba SC also took a slight advantage over Orlando Pirates FC by winning 1-0 in Dar Es Salam. The Tanzanian champions generally dominated this quarter-final first leg before opening the scoring on a penalty from Shomari Kapombe (68th). The South Africans then tried to equalise, but goalkeeper Manula proved to be imperial against Nyauza and Makaringe.

Quarter-finalists in the Champions League last season, Simba SC are far from safe before the second leg in Johannesburg in a week’s time, however.
