The sequence of events began shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Thursday when Simi Valley police responded to a call at a home in the 2000 block of Clover Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a husband and wife, both in their mid-40s, suffering from stab wounds. According to the KABC report, police believe the husband stabbed his wife inside the residence before exiting the home and stabbing himself.

Investigators found blood on the floors and walls of the home. The husband was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The severity of the scene was underscored by the weapons recovered. Sgt. Rick Morton of the Simi Valley Police Department noted that officers located two knives and a machete, with the machete found outside the residence.

“We did find two knives and a machete so we’re still trying to determine exactly which item was used during the violence,”

While the husband was taken into custody, the wife underwent surgery and is expected to survive. The Ventura County Star reported that four other adults and one child were present in the home at the time of the stabbing.

Because the suspect had injuries that required hospitalization, he was admitted to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks for evaluation and treatment. Throughout his stay, he remained under constant supervision by a Simi Valley police officer.

Around 12:20 p.m. on Thursday, the monitoring officer noticed the suspect needed medical attention and summoned hospital staff. The shooting occurred during that assessment on the fourth floor of the facility.

While official police statements described the event as an “incident” that occurred during the assessment, the Los Angeles Times cited a source familiar with the case stating that the suspect grabbed a medical staffer.

“The suspect was struck by gunfire, was treated by medical staff, is currently in stable condition and is still in custody of the Simi Valley Police Department,”

The shooting triggered a massive law enforcement response at 215 W. Janss Road, involving both the Simi Valley Police Department and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. The officer involved in the shooting was not injured.

The FOX 11 Los Angeles report emphasized that authorities viewed the shooting as an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public. Because the shooting happened inside the facility, hospital staff were able to provide immediate medical care to the suspect.

Neighbors in Simi Valley expressed shock over the domestic violence incident, describing the couple as “great people.” Jacqueline Gropp, a next-door neighbor, noted that the family had moved in about four years ago and had recently celebrated the birth of a granddaughter.

“I feel heartbroken about the whole thing. I can’t imagine what their family is going through. I know they just had a granddaughter born and that was like a big event. They were really happy about it,”

The legal and procedural fallout of the day’s events involves multiple agencies. Because the shooting occurred in Thousand Oaks, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is leading that specific investigation, with assistance from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office. Simultaneously, the Simi Valley Police Department is conducting a separate investigation into the original stabbing and attempted murder.

Authorities are currently seeking witnesses to the hospital shooting who were not contacted at the scene to reach out to detectives at (805) 654-9511.
