The American Simone Biles made history at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in the Belgian city of Antwerp. Almost two years after her mental collapse at the Tokyo Olympics, the talented gymnast fulfilled what she had promised by improving the jump called “Yurchenko Double Pike” in an international competition.

The winner of seven Olympic medals not only achieved that acrobatics, but added greater difficulty to it with two somersaults and the jump was baptized as the Biles II, since it is the second one that bears her name. In addition, the athlete entered the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) scoring system with the highest grade in history, receiving a rating of 6.4 points.

“I’m dealing with demons in my head,” said Simone Biles almost two years ago, when she withdrew from the Olympic Games and surprised the sports world. She added: “I have to do what is good for me, focus on my mental health and not compromise my well-being. I don’t have as much confidence in myself as before, I don’t know if it’s an age thing. I’m a little more nervous and I have the impression that I can no longer enjoy myself as before,” he argued at that time.

However, some time later she returned to activity and in August she participated in her first competition in two years, when she won the US Classic event in Hoffman Estates, on the outskirts of Chicago, before 11,000 cheering fans. In this way, the 26-year-old gymnast celebrated her eighth national championship.

Now, on her return to the international level, Biles made her debut at the World Cup in Antwerp and her performances on all the equipment in the qualifying round made her the top favorite to win her sixth absolute world title. She added a total of 2,266 points more than Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade, artistic gymnastics world champion in 2022, although those numbers are not carried over to the final phase.

Biles obtained 15,266 points on vault (with her new Yurchenko with a double backflip) for a total of 58,865 points, against 56,599 for Andrade, Olympic runner-up. Now it will be her turn to endorse her art in the team final, which will take place on Wednesday and where the United States will seek the seventh consecutive title. Then on Friday he will have his particular duel with Andrade for the individual trophy, while the weekend will be the definition for each device. But regardless of the medals that she ends up hanging, Biles has already made it clear that she is back and with her magic intact.
