‘Singles should vacate, men should not enter women’s flats’; Strange circular for residents

Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram Pattate Heera Flat Association with strange circular to residents. Unmarried residents are advised to vacate the flat within two months. The association also banned boys from single women’s flats and young women from young men’s flats.

The controversial circular of the association raises ethical issues. A circular was put up on the notice board of the flat stating that unmarried people should not allow people of the opposite sex to enter the flat and only those related by blood would be allowed to enter. Single people live in six flats here. The association circular has also been sent to them through WhatsApp.

If friends arrive, they are allowed to meet them only on the ground floor of the flat. In the circular, the association claims that the flat complex is owned by family residents.

Residents of the flat, Gopika and Durga, alleged that the association had misbehaved with their friend by asking them why the men were coming to the flat for some other reason. They alleged that even if the girls come to see them, they ask the president and the secretary and ask for their permission. They both stated that they have decided to file a police complaint against the association’s moral policing.
