On the occasion of the seventeenth anniversary of the martyrdom of MP and journalist Gebran Tueni and the fifteenth anniversary of the martyrdom of Major General Francois Al-Hajj, President Fouad Siniora recalled the two heroic martyrs and said: “Gebran Tueni, the patriotic and brave journalist, was assassinated by criminals hoping to silence him and frighten those who follow his path. His voice will remain loud with his oath for the sake of That Lebanon remains impregnable, strong, and continues to carry the message of Islamic-Christian coexistence, and the message of a homeland of love, mercy, and distinction.
He added, “If Gebran Tueni left us physically, his memory will remain as bright and bright as the memory of all the martyrs of the second independence uprising and the memory of all the martyrs of freedom, independence and sovereignty in Lebanon, led by our great martyr Rafik Hariri and his righteous companions.”
He said, “The heroic martyr, Francois al-Hajj, the hero of liberating Nahr al-Bared camp in the face of terrorist organizations.”
He concluded: “The memory of the martyrdom of Gebran Tueni and François Al-Hajj will be upon us, and the Lebanese will remain attached to this fragrant martyrdom memory and to the national principles and constants that they carried and were martyred for, and to confirm that Lebanon’s cause in restoring the sovereignty of its state that is capable, just and keen to respect the constitution is a national and noble cause that will not back down. And it will remain in order for Lebanon and its citizens to regain their freedoms, dignity, and their right to a safe, dignified, and prosperous life.”
