Sino-Arab Summit; Xi Jinping in Saudi | World | Deshabhimani

Riyadh
Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to attend the first China-Arab Summit and the Gulf Cooperation Council Summit. Many Arab leaders and foreign ministers will attend the summit.

The Chinese delegation is expected to sign several agreements and memorandums of understanding related to energy, security and infrastructure development. Xi Jinping will attend various conferences in Saudi Arabia till Saturday. The China-Arab States Cooperation Forum was established in 2004 to strengthen relations between China and Arab countries. The Sino-Arab summit is a continuation of this. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded that the summit is expected to become a milestone in the history of China–Arab relations.

The Chinese president’s visit to Saudi Arabia comes at a time when Saudi-US relations are strained over the petroleum production dispute. The decision by OPEC Plus to cut oil production despite US objections angered the US. Saudi Arabia has rejected US accusations that OPEC countries’ decision to cut oil production was politicized and that the decision was under pressure from Russia.
