Ski marathons in Russia start in winter and end in mid-spring.
Top athletes, due to the workload at the Russian Cup and other competitions, do not take part in all competitions, but they drop in on the most famous ones.

The anniversary 50 km freestyle marathon began in the village of Lesnoye and ended in the city park of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
Even before the finish line, three men ran away from their opponents – an Olympic medalist, a world and European champion in biathlon Alexander Loginov, World Cup medalist Andrey Melnichenko and winner of various ski marathons Dmitry Klyukvin.
There were no sprint improvisations on the target. Melnichenko appeared first in front of the audience. Loginov lost to him by 6.3 seconds. Klyukvin closed the top three – 10 seconds behind the champion.
So, Melnichenko exchanged his last year’s bronze for gold. Ivan Yakimushkin, who became the best in 2023, did not come to Sakhalin.
