Marrakesh, March 22. (Morocco-News) –
Skoda recorded a net profit of 22.41 billion Czech crowns (905 million euros at current exchange rates) in the year 2021, up 47.7% from 15.175 billion Czech crowns (613 million euros) that it earned in 2020, the company said on Tuesday during the presentation of its annual results.
The Czech carmaker’s CEO, Thomas Schäfer, said despite all the challenges, last year was a “good year” for the Volkswagen Group company.
“We did everything we could during the semiconductor crisis to produce as many cars as possible. This has allowed us to keep overall deliveries at a respectable level,” he explained.
The Czech multinational’s operating profit rose 51.4% last year to 26.216 billion crowns (1.06 billion euros), while its pre-tax profit rose 53% to 27 .32 billion crowns (1.105 billion euros).
Between January and December 2021, the company recorded a turnover of 422.607 billion crowns (17.088 billion euros), which translates into a regression of 0.4%, its global registrations having fallen by 12, 6% to 878,202 units.
By model, with 172,000 units delivered, the Octavia was once again the brand’s most popular model globally, followed by the Kamiq SUV with 111,000 units and the Karoq with 109,000 units.
Meanwhile, the electric Enyaq iV model hit markets over the past year and has “significantly” exceeded expectations, with some 45,000 units delivered. In total, Skoda received more than 115,000 orders for this vehicle.
Looking ahead to 2022, the company expects a high degree of uncertainty due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and resulting supply shortages.
“The global economy is expected to continue growing overall in 2022, but at a somewhat weaker level. Global passenger car demand is likely to vary by region and grow moderately in each coming year,” the company said.
