The consolidation in the AM industry continues. SLM Solutions has acquired the Portuguese AddCreative from Adira and is adding this German-developed technology for large format metal printing to the portfolio.
Addira AddCreative showed the results of various projects at Formnext last year: large complex metal parts with a diameter of one meter printed with the movable process chamber. That is the core of the technology that the Portuguese have been developing for several years. This process chamber of a maximum of 1 by 1 meter can be moved to print the next part of the workpiece. The concept comes from Fraunhofer ILT. The crux is mainly in the software that calculates the printing strategy.
Scalability and flexibility
SLM Solutions is now adding this technology to its own portfolio and sees a place for the technology between the large NXG XII 600 large format metal printers, with up to 12 lasers, and the recently announced large format metal printer it is currently developing. The German manufacturer says that the scalability and flexibility of AddCreative’s technology, together with the price aspects, are decisive. The technology is promising for many applications in sectors such as aerospace.
Recognition
The Adira AddCreative team that has been involved in the development of the AM system so far will go along with the acquisition. It will be added to the SLM Solutions global team. Miguel Gil Mata, Adira AddCreative’s Chairman and CEO, says he sees the acquisition as recognition of the breakthrough the Portuguese have made with their AM technology. Adira is originally a manufacturer of machines for the sheet metal industry.
