The general meeting is more than routine for shareholders. The buffet hasn’t been an attraction for a long time, and the personal contact with the management is even more so.

Like so many others, it is a regulation that was born out of necessity during the pandemic. In order to enable companies to inform their shareholders regarding the past financial year and the outlook despite the rigid traffic restrictions, the legal possibility was created to hold general meetings online.

As in Germany, what was intended as a temporary measure is now to be converted into permanent law in Austria. To this end, the Virtual Shareholders’ Meetings Act (VirtGesG) was drawn up in the department of Justice Minister Alma Zadić. The review went…
