Smart meter allows you to manage energy costs

According to estimates by Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency), the average adjustment in the electricity tariff for residential consumers should be around 6,9% until the end of 2023, with some regions of the country expected to be more affected than others. A survey by the CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber), in this sense, pointed out that electricity consumption in Brazil increased by 1,4% in the first six months of this year compared to the same period of the previous year.

Faced with this scenario of rising prices and greater demand for electrical energy, “smart meters” have come to the fore, devices with advanced functionalities that enable the management of electrical energy consumption more efficiently.

“With smart meters, consumers can monitor energy consumption through online platforms, receiving notifications when consumption reaches predefined levels, which helps keep expenses under control”, points out Claudio Puga, commercial director at Landis+Gyr , a company that has been offering energy management solutions for over 125 years.

While the traditional meter only measures general light consumption, the smart meter records and stores detailed consumption data, enabling the user to exercise greater control over the use of electrical energy.

“Smart metering makes it possible for consumers to identify how their consumption habits impact the value of their bill and, in this way, reduce excessive consumption, which will result in lower energy bills”, highlights Puga.

The commercial director of Landis+Gyr also highlights another positive point of smart meters: the detection of anomalies in the network, such as abnormal consumption peaks, which may indicate system failures or waste.

“Smart meters also allow integration with renewable energy sources, helping to balance the load on the grid, incorporating locally generated energy and reducing the need for conventional energy”, adds the expert.
