How do you find personnel in an overcrowded labor market? Many a personnel manager has lost sleep over it, but Zonnegilde, a company that installs solar parks and solar roofs here and there in the country, has used an ironclad asset to rake in new staff: conviviality. “Because colleagues indicated that this is precisely why they like working for us,” says Gertjan Boer, the company’s project manager.

So the company’s new recruitment video had to be cozy. And what’s more fun than a tearjerker? Zonnegilde (95 employees, eleven vacancies) therefore hired a studio, which with the text and music of the summer sing-along From Monday to Friday came up. Chorus: From moon roof to free roof, we are there for you, from moon roof to free roof no job is too heavy’.

Before the video became Coreactor Pascal Tan who, like an accomplished folk singer, sings on a roof about the joys of working on the roof and installing solar panels. He is surrounded by cheerfully dressed summery and partying Zonnegilde employees. The tearjerker can also be listened to on Spotify.

“I notice quite a bit of spinoff,” says De Boer about the song. “Also internally. People are proud to work for us, they enthusiastically share the video.” So far, ‘two or three’ interested parties have applied for a job, he knows. “We have only just started recruiting.” But what should you do if you want to install solar panels but are horrified by Dutch hits? That is not a problem, De Boer assures. “We have an open culture, everyone is welcome.”

The world installed 239 gigawatts of solar panels last year. That number may not tell you much, but it amounts to about 650 million panels.
