The railway group recorded, this Wednesday morning, a “230% increase in connections compared to the already record level of the opening of sales for the holidays last year”.

Turbulence at startup for SNCF Connect. On the occasion of the launch of ticket sales for this winter, this Wednesday, the site and the application allowing users to book their journeys was in difficulty for several hours this morning. The attraction of the train has pushed hundreds of thousands of Internet users to try to connect at the same time, putting digital tools in difficulty. Difficulties persisted at 10 a.m., but the site seemed accessible at times. Finally, the supports were functional again by midday, according to the company.

Since the beginning of the morning, a message has been displayed on the website, telling Internet users that it “there’s a bit of a wait» to access the platform. “Many of you want to book your train tickets, please renew your search in a few moments», added the message. The site was thus the victim of a “high attendance“. A situation regretted by many Internet users: “Start recruiting people to manage your site», complained one of them, on X – ex-Twitter. Another denouncing “a shipwreck“, and a third regretting that the company did not demonstrate “d’anticipation».

When contacted, SNCF confirmed that “the SNCF Connect website and app» met a “exceptional attendance since this morning, well beyond expectations“. The company’s teams were mobilized “to restore quality service as soon as possible», added the railway company. The SNCF recorded “up to one million connections per minute» in the morning, as soon as ticket sales open. She therefore set up “a virtual waiting room mechanism”, to allow everyone to have access to it. The firm faced an unprecedented explosion in attendance: “This record crowd represents a 230% increase in connections compared to the already record level of last year’s holiday sales opening, which already represented 10 times the connections of an average day“, she specifies.

Like every year, the company expects to see flows of passengers on its trains at the end of December. Wednesday is particularly scrutinized by users, who can now book their TGV, Ouigo and Intercités trips from December 10 to January 9. The company will also open a new Ouigo High Speed line between the Aéroport Roissy Charles de Gaulle TGV station and Toulon, via Lyon Saint-Exupéry and Aix-en-Provence TGV. “Reservations for the future Paris-Berlin night train, whose first runs will begin in mid-December 2023, will be open very soon, as well as reservations for the Paris-Vienna night train», adds the SNCF.
