LUXEMBOURG/NANCY – A strike by SNCF staff will seriously impact rail traffic from Wednesday to Friday. Thursday will be a particularly difficult day.

The strike will impact rail traffic between Luxembourg, Thionville, Metz and Nancy.

The SNCF announced a strike movement concerning part of its staff from Wednesday to Friday, in Lorraine and Champagne-Ardennes. As a result of this action, “train traffic will be severely disrupted”, especially on Thursday.

Cross-border trains to and from Luxembourg are not spared. According to Wednesday’s traffic plans, the SNCF tried to concentrate the cuts as much as possible outside of peak hours.

Most cancellations occur at the end of the day. The 8:09 p.m., 9:16 p.m., 9:39 p.m., 10:16 p.m. and 10:39 p.m. trains departing from Luxembourg and heading for Nancy will not run. Other trains are canceled at the end of the afternoon from Metz. It will therefore be better to leave the office at a time that is not too late for users… or to favor teleworking.

But the real hassle should start on Thursday, a day during which rush hour deletions are very likely. For now, the traffic plan has not been announced for this day.

In a press release sent to the press on Tuesday evening, the CGT Cheminots de Lorraine union justified the social movement by “the catastrophic employment situation within the operational teams”. This leads, according to the union, to “reorganizations which affect the safety of staff and circulation, positions eliminated or leave refused”. Difficulties to which are added “8 years of wage freeze and degraded working conditions”. An “intolerable” situation for the CGT, which is calling for “immediate hiring” and has already announced “more than 177 requests for the intention to strike”. No TGV should circulate between Luxembourg and Paris on Thursday, indicates the union of railway workers.
