2024-01-08 19:41:00

BBC Weather reports snow has started in south-east England. A ‘yellow alert’ has been issued for southern England and southern Wales. The Met Office reports that temperatures will drop dramatically tonight (Monday) to -4C in places, with temperatures as low as -7C in northern Scotland.

The Met Office has warned that snow will cause travel disruptions and ice and small amounts of snow might slow travel.

The Environment Agency has also warned that flooding in central England will remain the same.

BBC meteorologist Stav Danos reports that north-east England will see light rain, sleet and snow on the hills, with even low-lying areas in south-east England seeing snow and a light dusting of snow.

As per the warning issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
The West Midlands, East Midlands and the north and west of England are likely to experience cold weather until 12pm on Friday.

Health workers are warning that cold weather can increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, pneumonia and worsening arthritis in individuals, especially the elderly. Loss of hand strength and dexterity increases the risk of accidents at home, the report said.
