Soccer: Alistair Johnston close to joining Glasgow Celtic

Glasgow Celtic would have Canadian defender and CF Montreal representative Alistair Johnston in their sights.

Johnston was in the game that Canada lost 1-0 to BelgiumWednesday, at the FIFA World Cup presented in Qatar.

Celtic FC coach Ange Postecoglou is said to be impressed with the right-back and a deal is well on the way to being finalized. The star maple leaf player holds a UK passport as his mother is of Northern Irish descent.

Johnston is under contract with CFM until 2023 with two option years.

Celtic also turned to another defender present at the World Cup today, the Japanese Yuki Kobayashi. The latter would join the club in January following accepting a five-year offer.
