Social protection: a community watch unit set up in Kaffrine

Kaffrine, June 29 (APS) – A community monitoring unit was set up this Wednesday in Kaffrine (center) to contribute to the social protection of poor populations in the region, noted APS.

“This unit will be made up of civil society organizations (…) and will have the task of capturing the feelings of the people who benefit from social protection policies and programs”, argued Youssou Diop, coordinator of the Civil Society Organization for action research (Oscar).

He was speaking on the sidelines of a regional workshop to share the Oscar project and the installation of the community monitoring cell.

“These feelings captured will be put into a report that will be shared during Regional Development Committees (CRD) to extract themes and arguments that will serve as support for the advocacy that will be made at the level of parliamentarians to obtain a law on the protection social”, explained Mr. Diop.

According to its coordinator, the project aims to contribute to social protection for all by taking into account the diversities focused on certain Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“It will then be a question of training civil society organizations to give them the analytical skills so that they can influence the development of social protection policies in an inclusive way, taking gender into account,” he said. he says.

The Oscar project, initiated since 2020 for three years, has been funded to the tune of 500 million FCFA by the European Union.

Targeting the 14 regions of Senegal, its action aims to improve the social protection coverage of the poor, 50% of rural women and living in the informal economy, including the 550,000 households listed in the Single National Register (RNU).
