  • A Belgian footballer was involved in a spectacular accident.

  • Sofian Kiyine flew his car straight into a gym.

  • Luckily the kids weren’t there anymore.

These are crazy scenes captured by a surveillance camera in Liège, Belgium. A car races towards a roundabout, takes off and flies straight into a building – at the end only a hole can be seen. Now it is clear: a Belgian footballer was behind the wheel of the car. Sofian Kiyine, who plays for OH Leuven in the top Belgian league, lost control of his vehicle.

The 25-year-old had to be taken to a hospital with multiple broken bones. A spokesman for the association says: “He is not in mortal danger. Fortunately, no other vehicles or people were involved in the accident.” However, that could have been different. The building used to be a gym. Only a few minutes before the insane accident, children were still there. By the time Kiyine lost control, however, they were already in the locker room.

It is still unclear why the 25-year-old took off so incredibly. The Belgian media portal “dhnet.be” writes that Kiyine was traveling at a speed of 200 km/h. A good 90 km/h is actually allowed on the route. One of the local children’s trainers saw the car fly past him. The club says: “The club is waiting for more clarity about the exact circumstances of how the accident happened before reacting further.”
