Sold at Aldi, Penny and Co.: These are the “deceptive packs of the month”

In general, the consumer advice center complains that more and more own brands of discounters and supermarkets can be found in the deceptive packaging lists. So far, the unwanted prizes have mostly been awarded to the big brand manufacturers. For example, the Bitter Lemon drink and the Naturgut organic wood-fired oven pizza with mozzarella, spinach & feta from Penny and Olivano’s lentil bulgur salad Pikant from Netto can also be found in the list of deceptive packaging.

The XXL pack of Floralys toilet paper from Lidl is a special case: According to the consumer center, the number of sheets remained the same here, but the individual sheets are now a bit smaller. According to the calculations, consumers lose around three meters of toilet paper. Lidl denies this: “The “Floralys Soft XXL” pack is a one-off special large pack. A hidden price increase is not associated with it compared to a standard pack. (…)”.

The price developments also show that the prices of branded products are not currently rising as much as those of private labels. Between mid-March and the end of April, the prices of the large manufacturers only rose by an average of two percent, while the private labels rose by a full 17 percent.
