Solve For Tomorrow, Samsung’s global corporate citizenship program, awarded in its 9th edition students and teachers from three states in the Northeast of the country, making this region the most prominent in the program in 2022. Solve For Tomorrow is known for encouraging students and educators from the public school system by developing innovative solutions to meet the real demands of society through the STEM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). See below which were the Northeast prototypes awarded last year and sign up for the 10th edition of the program.

Northeast at Solve For Tomorrow Brazil

In first place among the National Winners, the group of three students from the Marconi Coelho Reis Full-Time Secondary School, in Cascavel, Ceará, was featured in Solve For Tomorrow in 2022. The team guided by teacher Heloina Lopes Capistrano presented a prototype for combating arboviruses through biodegradable capsules. In practice, when placed in contact with standing water, these capsules, produced with purple pine nuts and cashew tree resin, release biocompounds capable of combating the proliferation of mosquitoes, including Aedes aegypti, which is responsible for dengue.

Common prototype of Magnetic Vegetable Gardenstudents from the Dom Ungarelli Full Time Teaching Center, in Pinheiro, Maranhão, were winners in two categories at Solve For Tomorrow Brasil 2022. Guided by teacher Vanessa Campos Almeida, the five students on the team created a magnetic garden to help in the process of the school’s plantation, since the institution’s first vegetable garden had been compromised by the intense seasonal rains in the region in 2021. The team was in 3rd place among the national winners and was one of the most voted by the Popular Jury.

The Sisal II Territorial Professional Education Center, in Araci, Bahia, celebrated the victory of the five students who were awarded a glove prototype produced from bioplastic made with sisal. On the occasion, the group’s guiding teacher, Pachiele da Silva Cabral, explained that the project was thought of as an alternative to reduce the production of waste in a laboratory environment, in addition to meeting the increased demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) that marked the pandemic period.

“The Northeast is a region that is always very present in Solve For Tomorrow editions. There have been many outstanding participations from the states that are part of this region since the first edition of the program in Brazil, in 2014”, says Anna Karina Pinto, Director of Corporate Marketing at Samsung Brasil. “We are anxious to know the projects of the 10th edition and expectations are high in relation to the teams in the Northeast, as they are always very creative and engaged with the program”.

“Every year, we have creative and well-founded projects developed by students and teachers from the Northeast region. These are proposals aligned with the real challenges of the territory”, says Beatriz Cortese, Executive Director of Cenpec, the organization responsible for the general coordination of Solve for Tomorrow Brasil. “We are sure that in the 10th edition we will again see great ideas produced in public schools in the region.”
