Songwriting can feel like speed dating says Zara Larsson

Gwen Stefani is accused of cultural appropriation.

The 52-year-old singer has been the subject of controversy following her appearance in the music video for Sean Paul’s song ‘Light My Fire’ alongside Shenseea.

The clip was released on YouTube earlier this week, and many have spoken out against Gwen’s style, including her hairstyle.

The way the ‘Just a Girl’ singer’s hair was pulled back in the shape of dreadlocks caused an outpouring of outrage from viewers, with Twitter users accusing her of mimicking black culture.

One of its many critics said, “As a South Asian growing up in the 90s, I really feel that its current appropriation is dishonest to us. How can you, Gwen? (sic)”

Another commented: “No one can own a culture like Gwen Stefani does. »

Others defended the singer, with one person writing: “It’s nothing new, she’s had dreads before. »

Another netizen commented, “She doesn’t own it. She appreciates it and she does it with respect. She started in a ska band which is a type of reggae. She has always shown her love for race and culture. Some people just do it for profit. She does it because she likes it. »
