Sonic Frontiers could form the basis of the future of the license | Xbox One

Available for a few days on PC and consoles, Sonic Frontiers failed to fully convince the press and the players.

What if Sonic Frontiers was more than just a new episode?

In a recent interview with the Sector media, Takashi Iizuka, the boss of Sonic Team spoke about the future of the franchise and what the latest game could bring. According to him, Sonic Frontiers can be classified in the same category as Sonic Adventure, as it represents the foundations of what the next games should look like:

Much like Sonic Adventure, our goal for Sonic Frontiers was to create a game that would be the cornerstone of future Sonic games. It’s a whole new take on the franchise, but we’ve also been careful to honor Sonic’s roots – the game should still feel like a Sonic game.

It is true that Sonic Frontiers has a certain potential concerning its mixture between the classic experience well known to fans of the franchise, and freely explorable regions. However, if the developers want to continue this momentum, they will have to thoroughly review the technical aspect of the game and the interest that such freedom brings.

As a reminder, Sonic Frontiers is available since November 8, 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. If you wish to know our opinion on this title, you can already consult our test.
