Microsoft offers Windows native compatibility with the RAR format
There are several compression formats. The best known is of course ZIP which allows you to create an archive inside which you can place files to make them smaller. But there are others, including RARZIP’s eternal paying competitor, and 7zip, a free and very popular alternative. Windows has never been natively compatible with RAR and 7ZIP. You need to install (and pay in the case of RAR) third-party software.
