Sony buys Jade Raymond Haven Studios

Almost a year following Sony announced it was working with Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios on a new gaming IP, the company has now acquired the developer. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Sony and Haven have shared some information regarding the game they’ve been working on together for over a year.

Raymond said: “Our first new IP address for PlayStation is on track to deliver an immersive experience

A multiplayer AAA game with a vision to build a structured, evolving world focused on freedom, excitement, and fun that will keep players entertained and engaged for years, that’s not a lot to go on, but it looks like Haven is working on a live service game the studio plans to support over many years. Sony did not share the release date of the project.

Sony’s acquisition of Haven is the latest sign that the video game industry is rallying around a handful of big players. It may only be a few months into 2022, but Microsoft and Sony have already announced two deals to split the industry into two opposing camps. It all started in January when the former revealed it was buying troubled publisher Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion. Less than two weeks later, Sony surprised everyone with the news that it had acquired Destiny 2 developer Bungie for $3.6 billion.
