Sony plans to acquire more game developers

Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan revealed that the company plans to acquire more video game development studios, in addition to those already announced in 2021 and 2022.

Speaking regarding the acquisitions during an appearance on the PlayStation Podcast, Ryan said: “We’re in a really good place for PlayStation Studios right now, and we’ve been for the past few years. The critical success and commercial success of the games they were making, which gave us the confidence to invest heavily in content creation.”

Ryan added: “We are growing our studios organically and we are growing through acquisition. We acquired 5 studios during 2021, we are in discussions with Bungie and we have plans for more. This leads us to a good cycle and cycle, where success breeds success.”

It was recently announced that Sony had acquired Haven Studios only last month. It was the company’s second major acquisition in 2022, and was preceded by the acquisition of Destiny’s creator in January. Prior to that, in 2021, Sony acquired 5 companies: Valkyrie, Housemarque, Bluepoint, Firesprite and Nixxes.
