Sony’s latest surround soundbar is designed to create a robust surround sound on its own. Also on board are a newly developed upmixer and compatibility with Sony’s “Home Entertainment Connect” app.

With the HT-S2000, Sony has introduced a new 3.1-channel soundbar. This should offer a convincing surround sound experience with technical tricks and features – and this without additional loudspeakers.

The “Vertical Sound Engine” and “S-Force PRO” should help with this. The former gives the impression that the sound is coming from above, the latter from the side. In combination with the center speakers and the integrated dual speaker, a cinematic sound should be delivered.

For those who still want more, the HT-S2000 is still compatible with other Sony surround speakers, such as the SA-SW5 subwoofer or the SA-RS3 rear speaker.

The soundbar is Dolby Atmos/DRS:X compatible and, thanks to a newly developed upmixer, should be able to analyze stereo content in real time and give it surround sound. In addition to the connection to the television, the HT-S2000 can also play videos and music from devices connected via Bluetooth or the Internet.

The HT-S2000 is also the first device compatible with Sony’s new “Home Entertainment Connect” app. This should simplify the setup and use of the soundbar. Volume, sound fields and other settings might be controlled directly via the app.

The HT-S2000 will be available from mid-June for CHF 499.

In April, Sony presented the TA-AN1000, an AV amplifier that, like the HT-S2000, is said to be predestined to create immersive surround sound. More information regarding the amplifier can be found here.
