It’s the end for PlayMemories Online. Sony is in the process of unplug the cables of its online photo and video storage service. Since the start of the year, it is no longer possible to create a new account on this cloud. On September 30, a new nail was put in the coffin with the cessation of the import of images and the abandonment of applications on iOS, Android, PlayStation 4 and Bravia televisions.

Next hammer blow on February 29, 2024, with the complete shutdown of the service. If you have photos or videos stored on PlayMemories Online, you must recover them before this date, otherwise they will be deleted forever. A download tool is made available to facilitate file rescue.

“We apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding and cooperation”, declares the Japanese manufacturer. Launched in 2012 in France, PlayMemories Online allowed you to store an unlimited number of photos in reduced versions (1,920 pixels in length) or up to 5 GB in original versions.

Instead, Sony recommends using its new Creators’ Cloud, a platform that includes online storage space. The free plan only includes 5GB of space, but Sony camera owners can unlock an additional 25GB for free.
