Images from Mars can be deceiving. Unconventional wear Rocks can look like a fish. This is what a backlit shelf can look like A look in the face. Cropped photos and enlarged views can make small features appear large. The “entrance” can go completely unnoticed if the shadows happen to fall from a different angle.
This is not to detract from the joy of finding oddly shaped rocks and natural features on Mars. We should definitely have fun butt cracks and zen gardens and whimsical arches. But perhaps the most magical thing is that we have a robot on wheels that revolves around Gale Crater and brings back images from another world.
