Paris Filmes announced last Friday (11) that it will distribute the controversial film Sound of Freedom in Brazil. The feature film to arrive to cinemas nationwide from next September 21st.

The film stars Jim Caviezel and addresses an episode in the life of former US government special agent Tim Ballard. The story revolves around denunciations of perverse criminals who sexually exploit children.

Ballard (played by Jim Caviezel) travels to Colombia to rescue two brothers who have been tricked and trafficked. Along the way, the character finds important allies, who end up becoming crucial elements in his search.

The film was successful in the United States, where it has raised US$ 167 million in its first weeks of opening in theaters. The production budget was around US$ 14.5 million and the cast does not have big Hollywood names.

Sound of Freedom generated controversy in the US after journalistic investigations and some professionals in the field pointed out that the script deviated a lot from the actual situation, even though the film was sold as a portrait of a real case.

Critics of the film also pointed out that this production sends an extreme right message, which generated debates on the internet, in addition to conspiracy theories, which believe in the existence of a satanic sect that would kidnap children for rituals.

More conservative vehicles in the United States gave a lot of prominence to these topics. The executive producer of Sound of Freedom, Eduardo Verástegui, in an interview with Fox News, stated that the production is not just a film, but “a movement”.
