Johannesburg: Youngsters Trystan Stubbs and Devald Brevis have been left out of South Africa’s 15-man World Cup squad. There is no place for Wayne Parnell who played in the series against Australia in the team led by Temba Bavuma. In South Africa’s 15-member team, eight players, including captain Bavuma, are playing in the World Cup for the first time. The surprise addition to the team is right-arm pacer Gerald Koetse, who made his debut earlier this year.
Anthich Norkya and Lungi Ngidi will be in the pace attack led by Kagiso Rabada. Keshav Maharaj and Tabriz Shamsi joined the team as spinners. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock has announced his retirement from ODI cricket after the ODI World Cup.
South Africa’s first match in the World Cup is against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 7. Before this, South Africa will play warm-up matches against Afghanistan and New Zealand.
