For the fourth match, Uruguay inflicted on Argentina its first defeat as world champions by winning 2-0 in the city of Buenos Aires, for the fifth round of the South American qualifier for the 2026 World Cup.
The goals of the Celeste, led by Argentine Marcelo Bielsa, were scored by Ronald Araujo (41) and Darwin Núñez (88), for the first victory of the Charrúas in their entire history in Argentina in World Cup qualifying matches.
In the last match of the day, Chile and Paraguay tied 0-0, in the city of Santiago, in a lackluster match marked by expulsions, for the fifth round of the South American qualifier for the 2026 World Cup.
