The Game

South Dakota will take on the North Dakota Fighting Hawks on Thursday at 4 p.m. at First Bank and Trust Soccer Complex in Vermillion. It will be the Coyotes’ third consecutive home match to begin Summit League play.

The Series

South Dakota leads the all-time series 16-14-5 including a 10-4-2 mark in Vermillion. The Coyotes have won five of the last seven matchups, but North Dakota earned a 1-0 win in Grand Forks a year ago.

The Coyotes

South Dakota (5-3-3, 1-1-0 Summit) had a three-match win streak snapped Sunday in a 1-0 loss to South Dakota State. It marked just the third time USD had been held without a goal this season. Goalkeeper Caroline Lewis was under fire throughout most of the match and faced 20 shots, but she and the Coyotes’ back line yielded just the one goal. USD has permitted just three goals in their last four matches.

Senior Ashby Johnston, who had two goals in a 3-1 win against St. Thomas to begin Summit play, is second in the Summit with seven goals this season. Shaylee Gailus and Brooke Conway stand with four goals apiece and Conway has assisted on four scores.

The Fighting Hawks

North Dakota (4-5-3, 0-1-1 Summit) dropped a 2-0 decision to Omaha Thursday and worked a scoreless draw with Kansas City Sunday. Both those matches were held in Grand Forks. The Fighting Hawks, behind goalkeeper Madi Livingston, have posted six shutouts in 12 matches. Livingston leads the Summit with 54 saves.

Allison Rapaduski (four goals), Amelia Loeffler (three) and Evelyn Pazienza (three) have combined to score all but four of North Dakota’s goals this season. It was Loeffler who netted the gamewinner in the 61st minute of last year’s contest with South Dakota.
