The Game

South Dakota hosts Northern Colorado for a game at 7 p.m. Tuesday inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center in Vermillion, S.D.

The game will be televised by Midco Sports Two with play-by-play from Jay Elsen and color by Brad Newitt. That broadcast will be available on the Summit League Network, available via the Midco Sports Plus app. A radio broadcast from the Coyote Sports Network with Jerry Palleschi will also be available on KVTK 101.5.

The Coyotes

South Dakota is a rare commodity in the day and age of the transfer portal. The Coyotes did not have a single player transfer out during the offseason, one of just 18 programs to not lose a player to the portal last year. The Coyotes were picked third in the preseason Summit League poll with both junior guard Grace Larkins and sophomore forward Carley Duffney recognized on the all-league preseason teams.

Another fun note is that Tuesday will be the 100th women’s basketball game inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. The Coyotes are 86-13 all-time on Abbott Court.

The Bears

Northern Colorado was picked sixth in the Big Sky preseason poll and senior guard Hannah Simental was voted to the preseason all-Big Sky team. The Bears knocked down 14 3-pointers in their season opener versus Hastings (Neb.), with six from senior forward Delaynie Byrne and five by Simental. UNC was efficient too, shooting at a 48.3 percent clip from three.

The Series

South Dakota and Northern Colorado were North Central Conference foes from 1989-2003. UNC was the first to make the Division I jump. South Dakota leads the all-time series 19-15, but the Bears have won the last two meetings. Tuesday is a return trip from the Coyotes game in Greeley a year ago. A cold third quarter proved costly as the Yotes dropped a 72-65 decision. Larkins dropped a 30-piece in the game, her first of three on the season.

Up Next

South Dakota is off to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament on Paradise Island. The Coyotes open the tournament with DePaul at 6:30 p.m. (Central) on Saturday.
