The 23-year-old had previously researched on the Internet and in the library how she could commit the perfect murder. She contacted a 26-year-old English teacher – her victim – via a tutoring app.

That’s what it’s about

South Korean Jung Yoo-jung was a true crime fan – then she became a murderer.

In May, the 23-year-old killed a teacher and dismembered her body.

The police quickly tracked her down.

This brutal murder has been shaking South Korea for weeks – on Friday, a court in the city of Busan sentenced 23-year-old Jung Yoo-jung to life in prison. Yoo killed an English teacher in May and dismembered her body. Particularly shocking: When questioned by the police, the woman confessed that she had committed the crime “out of curiosity”.

The South Korean woman is said to have been “obsessed with crime series and novels,” reports the BBC. She really wanted to “try murder” – and so the unemployed loner, who lived with her grandfather, went on a months-long search for a victim.

Worse than a serial killer

Yoo looked for an English teacher via a tutoring app. She contacted 50 people posing as the mother of a high school student who needed tutoring. Finally, Yoo chose a 26-year-old woman who lived on the other side of town. After Yoo and her victim made an appointment, the killer got a school uniform and drove to the teacher’s house.

As soon as the woman let Yoo into the house, the perpetrator attacked her. Yoo stabbed her victim over 100 times. She then dismembered the body and got into a taxi to dispose of some of the body parts in a remote park near a river north of Busan. However, the taxi driver saw the 23-year-old’s blood-soaked clothes and heavy suitcase and alerted the police. The crime thriller fan, who said he wanted to carry out “the perfect murder,” was arrested shortly after the crime.

In the court hearings, Jung Yoo-jung stated that she was suffering from hallucinations and mental disorders at the time of the crime. But the so-called PCL-R test, which a team of psychologists carried out on the woman, showed a different picture. The examination helps to assess the extent of psychopathy and antisocial personality disorder in a person – according to the Korea Post, Yoo performed worse than South Korea’s notorious serial killer Kang Ho-soon.
