Aditya, named after a Hindu Sun deity, traveled 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, only 1% of the distance that separates our planet from the sun. It is now at a point where the gravitational forces of the two celestial bodies cancel out, allowing it to remain in a stable orbit around the Sun. The orbiter will notably study coronal mass ejections, a periodic phenomenon which results in enormous discharges of plasma and magnetic energy coming from the Sun’s atmosphere.
