115,598 hectares have already burned in Spain, almost the triple that during the rest of the year

About 115,598 hectares in Spain have already burned during the fire wave of this August, almost triple that during the rest of the year, according to figures from the Forest Fire Information System of the European Commission (EFFIS). Specifically, July 29 shows that a total of 41,903 has burned until that time in the country.

In a matter of two weeks, that figure has grown until 157,501 hectares, with estimates taken today. This means, according to the data consulted by Europa Press, that in August 115,598 ha have been burned, 2.7 times more than in the rest of 2025. The Autonomous Community that is being most affected by the fire is Castilla y León, which in the early afternoon counts a total of 18 active fires, of which eight are cataloged with the potential gravity index (IGR) Level 0, as reflected in the infocal website consulted by Europa Press at 14.30.

The flames affect the provinces of León, Palencia, Salamanca and Zamora, although it is the Leonese that has the most spotlights in IGR 2. Specifically, it is those of Failure, Anillares de Sil, Yeres and Llamas de Cabrera who have this cataloging. Mozyuelas de la Carballeda and Puercas, in Zamora, are also maintained at this level despite the fact that the improvement in its evolution has allowed residents of the affected municipalities who were evacuated to have been able to return to their homes. Finally, Resoba in Palencia also remains in IGR 2, while the Board has also declared this same level for the pool, in Salamanca, which has been reproduced in the last hours and has forced to confine the municipality and evacuate tourists. In gravity index 1 there are two spotlights, both in the province of León. It is about Orallo and Barniedo de la Reina. The rest are active but in zero gravity index. (EP)
