The government of spain announced this Thursday that “in a matter of days” will stop demanding the vaccination certificate against covid-19 to tourists from outside the European Union (EU), and that will be able to enter the country with a negative test.

“It will be a matter of days before we are going to eliminate a restriction that could be discouraging tourists from outside the European Union from visiting us,” said the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto. “We are going to stop requiring the vaccination certificate to allow them to also enter with a negative test,” she added in statements to Spanish radio Onda Cero.

Maroto stressed that this is “good news” and that the measure will take effect once the Executive finishes outlining the order that will collect this elimination of the vaccination certificate for non-community tourists in order to approve it.

“It will be very welcome, only by presenting a negative test will they be able to enter,” he said, and reiterated that the measure was expected by the tourism sector and this year it will place Spain as one of the preferred destinations for international tourists.

“Always with prudence, the world sees us as a safe destination, more than 92% of the Spanish population is vaccinated“, he continued.

“Tourism recovers at rates that are difficult to imagine in January, but today it is a reality, andTourism is the growth lever of the economy this year“, he stressed.
