Spanish newspapers demand 550 million from Meta

Spanish newspapers are rebelling once morest the tech giant Meta and suing it for unfair competition. The main press groups have united to denounce the practices of the owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp in terms of segmented , and are demanding 550 million euros in compensation for the damage suffered.

The accusation is led by the Association of Press Publishers (AMI), which represents nearly 90 Spanish titles including the most important in the country, such as “El Pais”, “La Vanguardia”, “El Mundo” and “ABC », as well as regional press groups. This Monday, they announced a joint complaint once morest Meta for its “systematic and massive” violation of the European data protection standard, “during the period between May 25, 2018 and, at least, July 31, 2023”.
