The weekend in Spielberg takes place in a Saturday sprint format, when the teams have only one hour of training, in which they need to test new products, decide on a strategy and evaluate tire life. Luckily, we were lucky with the weather – it will start to rain in the evening.
Six teams at once brought novelties to Austria, hoping to collect information about their work here in order to fully use them next week at Silverstone. With each stage, the cars of other teams are becoming more and more like the Red Bull RB19.
Williams lost the first 15 minutes, but the team representative said that everything was going according to plan.
Having driven most of the session on Hard and Medium, the riders switched to Soft only in the last minutes, and even then not all of them, in order to prepare for today’s qualification.
Not without minor errors – Bottas and Alonso went off the track in the first turn, Tsunoda in the third, Hamilton in the sixth, Leclerc and Ocon in the last – without consequences for the cars.
Max Verstappen led the protocol with a lap time of 1:05.742 on the Medium.
