Beaming faces, eagerly waving hands and red carnations line the stage set up on Vienna’s Rathausplatz. After a Corona break, the SPÖ is celebrating its traditional May march on Labor Day with particular vigor this time. Where party leader Werner Faymann was kicked out of office six years ago, the Red officials applaud and cheer their leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner.
After five years on the tough opposition bench, to which the party never really wanted to get used to, one can smell chancellery air again.
