SPÖ Requests Penalty for Signa Founder Rene Benko – COFAG-U Committee Updates and Next Steps

At the end of the COFAG-U committee day, the MPs voted on the further course of action with regard to Signa founder Rene Benko, who was invited today. Because of its short-term cancellation, the SPÖ requested a penalty and a new summons. This found support from the other factions – including the ÖVP. The application was unanimously approved in a vote that was not open to the media, as ORF.at said.

SPÖ parliamentary group leader Jan Krainer was confident that Benko might be summoned and questioned once more before the end of the U-Committee, but admitted that they were dependent on the Federal Administrative Court when it came to coercive measures.

The last regularly scheduled surveys in the COFAG-U committee are scheduled for April 24th and 25th. In addition, May 22nd is a possible alternative date or reserve day if important informants are unable to attend on the other days. As the parliamentary correspondence further announced, the parliamentary groups then have until July 1st to write their final reports.
