SPÖ-Schroll: Urgent need for action to reduce dependence on Russian gas

Government work is inadequate and uncoordinated

Vienna (OTS/SK) – SPÖ energy spokesman Alois Schroll sharply criticizes the government’s inadequate measures to reduce dependence on Russian gas and calls for decisive steps. “It is unacceptable that Minister Gewessler is only now, following two years of the Ukraine conflict, taking measures to reduce our dependence on Russian gas. We urgently need to become independent,” said Schroll on Sunday. ****

Gewessler’s previous measures are uncoordinated and inadequate. “The federal government is obviously on its last legs, how else might it be explained that only half-baked measures are being communicated,” said Schroll.

The SPÖ is calling for a clear and comprehensive plan to reduce dependence on Russian gas, which must be carefully examined. “For two years, the SPÖ has repeatedly emphasized the urgency of Austria breaking away from its dependence on Russian gas and achieving real independence in gas supply. The SPÖ will certainly not be available to endanger the supply of gas to the population or to make gas bills even more expensive. This government is increasingly a danger to the people and the economy in Austria.” (Conclusion) ff
