Two motions in the National Council once morest hate on the Internet and to record misogynistic violence

Vienna (OTS/SK) – National Councilor and Tyrolean SPÖ state women’s leader Selma Yildirim speaks out clearly once morest hatred and agitation and in favor of respectful treatment in connection with the incidents involving journalist Alexandra Föderl-Schmid: “The way in which people are sometimes treated , which are in the public eye, is bypassed in no way can be justified. Hate campaigns or plagiarism hunting – the choice of words alone speaks for itself. Threats, hate posts, attempts at intimidation, insults and more build up pressure that is difficult to withstand.” ****

Journalists and politicians are particularly affected. A 2021 survey of female MPs by the Momentum Institute confirmed this and highlighted the problem of personal attacks and hatred online.

“Of course, as a public figure you are in the spotlight. Targeted attempts at intimidation, especially from the right, are not trivial offenses. This is where violence begins,” said Yildirim.

She has submitted two motions to the National Council: “Studies show that women sometimes change their behavior or stop speaking out out of fear. The women’s wish was to record this type of violence statistically. In addition, a coordination office should be set up to help take quicker action once morest hatred.”
