Sporting KC Trading Dániel Sallói to Toronto FC | MLS Report

by

Toronto FC is set to acquire Hungarian winger Dániel Sallói from Sporting Kansas City, according to reports from The Athletic’s Tom Bogert on Thursday. The deal is structured around $300,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and an additional $700,000 in add-ons, and notably, Sallói will not occupy a Designated Player slot for Toronto.

The 29-year-old Sallói has been a mainstay for Sporting KC since joining the club’s academy in 2015 and making his senior debut in 2017. Over nine Major League Soccer seasons, he has accumulated 54 goals and 33 assists in 242 matches, earning an MLS All-Star selection in 2021. He has made 286 total appearances for SKC, scoring 67 goals in all competitions.

The move comes as a surprise given Sallói’s status as the longest-tenured player on Sporting KC’s roster. He had recently been exploring a new role as a shadow striker during preseason, reportedly developing chemistry with forward Dejan Joveljic. Prior to the potential trade, Sporting KC had only 21 players on their roster, awaiting the arrival of Lasse Berg Johnsen and the processing of his P-1 visa.

Sallói’s departure likewise removes a potential captaincy candidate for Sporting KC, as he frequently wore the armband last season following the exit of Erik Thommy. He was entering the final year of his contract with the club.

Toronto FC opens its 2026 MLS campaign on Saturday with a road match against FC Dallas. Sporting KC will simultaneously begin its season with a home game against the San Jose Earthquakes. The completion of the Sallói trade is expected before Friday’s roster compliance deadline.
