Spotify Introduces User Notes for Adding Personal Captions to Playlists

Spotify is rolling out a new feature called User Notes, allowing both free and Premium users aged 16 and older in select markets to append short, 240-character captions to individual tracks on self-created or collaborative playlists, bringing added context directly below songs in a social-media-style format.

How Spotify User Notes Operates Under the Hood

According to reporting by 9to5Mac via TechCrunch, users can access this functionality by tapping the ellipsis menu next to any song in a playlist and selecting “Add note.” Once inputted, the 240-character text string renders directly beneath the track title.

Spotify has stated that the feature aims to bridge personalization with contextual background, allowing listeners to build a narrative over time around the tracks and moments that shaped their listening habits. A warning label appears directly at the bottom of the text input field to notify creators before they save their captions.

Ecosystem Context and Concurrent Features

This software update arrives alongside the deployment of Running Mode, another targeted addition designed to construct personalized workout playlists based on a user’s specific pace, running goals, and overall listening history.
