Spotify launches desktop miniplayer for Premium users

Many subscribers to Spotify will no longer need third-party apps to use it with a miniplayeras the streaming giant today released this option for its desktop application natively.

The resizable floating window lets you control audio (like changing tracks), choose playlists, and adjust volume. To open the mini player, simply click on the icon next to the volume slider, in the bottom right corner of the application — to the left of the button to open the app in full screen.

The reduced window can work in different proportions: square (ideal for videos) or thinner (with play/pause and track skip controls next to the current track and album art information).

As stated, the feature eliminates the need for third-party applications (such as SpotMenu and the Sleeve) to fill what until then was a lack of initiative from Spotify.

The new feature, it is worth noting, is being made available first to Premium subscribers — and it is not yet possible to say when (and if) it will be released to users of the free plan.

Is it possible to download Spotify for desktop on this page.
